Smalls SAL - July finish, Needlepoint blocks

It's time to show my July finish for Smalls SAL hosted by Heather of stitching lotus.  This time I have stitched a small band for a towel and attached to it.  Used variegated embroidery thread of 2 strands.  The design has been taken from here.

Also, I have done 2 more blocks in needlepoint sampler.

For this block I have combined two stitches.  The stitch in the bottom half  is called Round eyelet stitch. Just stitched two rows of eyelet stitch and filled the unworked area with long stitches.  Learned the stitch  from here.
The stitch above the eyelet part is variation of brick stitch called Double brick stitch.  Learned the stitch from here.

The name of this stitch is bound cross stitch.  This stitch can create nice effect with the proper placement of colors.  But I didn't do that correctly.  But it is a good stitch to fill in a particular area. Learned the stitch from here.

I will be back with my embroidery in the kurti.  Till then, Happy embroidering and have a great weekend.

Scotch Stitch, some bits of crochet and paper craft

Today I have completed the fourth block in my needlepoint sampler.  This week I was busy with my kurti project and to my bad luck when I had few stitches remaining I ran out of thread.  I don't know why I have choosen a color which I have shortage of thread.  But that design requires more thread than I expected. So, today I took my needlepoint sampler and finished the fourth block.

The name of this stitch is Scotch stitch. Each square is stitched over 3 x 3 threads.  I used four colors for this block.   Learned the stitch from here.  Variations can be done with this stitch which I will explore later.

All the four blocks together and I have completed 1 row.

I have crocheted a small table mat with African flower square some time back and it is here for you to see today.

And a kusudama flower boquet made with the help of youtube tutorial.

That's all for today.   Will come up with another completed project .  Till then watch my space.  Have a happy weekend.

Embroidery on paper, Iris folding

Two days back my niece asked me to do something for her to hang it in her class room noticeboard.  When I was thinking what to do, embroidery on paper strikes me.  Long back I have tried it and this time I wanted to do something that looks professional.  Searched for the patterns in the internet and I got so many from a website.  I decided to do a round border and planned to write some thoughts inside it.  I was really happy on seeing the outcome of it.

First the design has been pricked in the chart paper and then with single strand of thread the design has been created using straight stitches.  Can u believe that the two rounds in the design is made up of only straight stitches?  Wonderful art on paper with needle and thread.  Then added the thoughts inside it.  Added a square border with thermocol balls and it is all done.

Some closeups.

Also, an Iris folding card which I have done  months back.  Today I have added borders to it.  An easy and simple technique which gives you a cute and beautiful design.  Learnt this technique from the net and design is also taken from the net.  If u google for Iris folding patterns and tutorials you will get enough details with so many patterns.  We can finish it within an hour depending upon the design.

I have used satin ribbon.  But most of the tutorials use patterned paper.  Now over to the card.

Also, I have tried origami flowers and have done a boquet out of it.  Will come up with that in another post.  Till then happy embroidering and crafting.

Shadow work saree pallu

In the beginning of this year I have started to do shadow work in a saree. I have completed 3/4 of the embroidery and today I am showcasing the pallu part of it.  Earlier I have posted the motif here.  In that I have embellished it with more stones.  But finally I have decided to reduce the number of stones and this is what I have come up with.

5 big motifs are there.  The design is from Anchor needle n thread magazine.  Sorry for the poor quality of the photos. My photgraphic skills....................

I have to complete the flowers along the borders.  Thought of completing within next week.  But I ran out of  my pink thread.  So it will get delayed in completing this project.  And next week I will start of a project in kutch work.  Will come up with some crochet finishes before the final ta..da.. of the saree.  Till then, Happy embroidering.

My heartfelt condolences to wink

In the blogland of crochet many of u have been familiar with wink who creates beautiful patterns for crochet especially can't forget the sheepjes blanket cal she conducted last year.  Yesterday I have also posted a square made with the help of a pattern created by her.  Today when I open my dashboard I came to know the sad news that wink has been passed away coz depression overcame her.  I was forced to write this post because only yesterday I was saving the mandala patterns and was planning to do some.

Here is a post by her sister about the loss.  I will miss you wink.  May your soul rest in peace.  May God grant her family the strength and courage to live the life without wink.
