Kantha Embroidery motifs

Few months back I have participated in the Kantha embroidery SAL of Anita of artistic fingers.  And today I am here to show you the motif which I have embroidered during that SAL.  I am not satisfied with the color of the threads and the stitching of the bird portion(bottom).  But I am happy that I have learned some basics in Kantha embroidery.  Click on the image to get more closer view.

KANTHA EMBROIDERY MOTIF - 1

Some closeups.
HERE you can see how beautifully Anita had stitched the body of the bird.  I should try it again.

Thanks Anita for the wonderful SAL.

KANTHA EMBROIDERY MOTIF - 2

This pattern is from Mridulas embroidery school.  Thanks to Mridulas.   I am planning to make a cushion cover out of these motifs.  Let me see how it works out.   Till then, Have a happy time with your needle and thread.

  1. Oh, Kantha is such an attractive form of embroidery. As it is based on very simple stitches the colour of the thread might be extra important.
Your stitching is very neat and tidy, with even stitches and good tension. If colour is a problem, next time you could first try to draw the pattern on paper with coloured pencils, and change a combination you like.
These motifs will be wonderful on a cushion.

  3. It's very pretty !! A cushion would be great!!:) I earlier had a cushion with Kantha embroidery , store bought, I still haven't tried my hands on this embroidery. Everytime you tell about Mridula's , it reminds me the books I purchased from her school and I feel so bad for not leaving my comfort zone of crochet and cross stitch and trying out other things:(
