Kantha Embroidery Design 1 - Jod Stitch, Dhaneer Sheesh Stitch

Hope all are doing well and good.  Yesterday I have shared one of the embroidered saree which I have bought recently.  It is embroidered using kantha embroidery.  Kantha embroidery uses running stitch, herringbone stitch.  Though the stitches are simple the design and the colors makes it rich.

In 2015 I have learned kantha embroidery as a part of SAL from Anita.  Thanks to her.  You can view that design here.

  I have save some pictures in my pinterest board and inspired by those pictures I have come up with this paisley design which is very easy to stitch.  This design can be used as a border or the paisley motif alone can be used as buttas all over the dress. 

Pattern for the design

In this design running stitch is used.  According to the design and working it has got different names.  I have showed the drawings for working these stitches as it is easily understandable from the picture. 

 

JOD STITCH

I have used it as a border in the above design.  Three lines of running stitches are made in the design.  We can make any number of lines.  It is used particularly for borders.  All the stitches should be equal in size and the distance between each stitch should be the same.  The stitches in each lines be parallel to each other. 

Start from 1 and insert it at 2.  First stitch is made.  Then between 3 and 4 the second stitch should be made.  Follow the numbers and the running stitches should be made.  The gap between the first and second row of stitches should be as small as possible. 

DHANEER SHEESH STITCH

Again this is same as above stitch, instead the running stitches are made to fill in a particular space say, line of rectangular blocks or line of triangle.  The same stitch can also be used to fill in a line of circles also.
