Cast on Stitch - Tutorial/ How to do Cast on stitch?

Hope all are doing well and good.  Yesterday I have posted a embroidered rose flower using cast on stitch.  Today I am happy to share with you the tutorial for doing that stitch.  Also I have included the steps to do a simple cast on stitch flower.

Now we will move on to the tutorial.  This stitch is same as the bullion stitch but only the method of wrapping the thread around the needle differs.  I have used tapestry needle for this tutorial.  If you have chenille needle you can use it.  It will be easy to work the cast on stitch if you fix the frame in a stand.  We need both the hands to do it which is much easier.

  Bring the needle up through the fabric.

Insert the needle a little below the point where the thread comes out and then bring it out at the first point.  The distance between the point where needle goes in and comes out depends on the length of the stitch.

Now wrap the working thread around the index finger.  Use your right hand to do this step.

Wrapping around the index finger of the left hand and bring the thread to the front so that it intersect the thread in the front thus forming a loop.  

Holding the working the thread with the right hand with the loop in the left index finger slightly pull up the needle with your index finger.  

Now slide the loop slowly inside the needle.  One wrap of cast on stitch is formed.  

I have shown the wrapping and sliding of the loop in the following video for better understanding. 

Repeat the above steps and cast on the required number of stitches.  I have done it 9 times here.

Now hold the wraps with your thumb and index fingers of left hand slowly pull out the working thread through the wraps as we do for bullion knots. 

Bring the wraps towards the point where you insert the needle below .

Insert the needle again in the same point before or at the end of the cast on stitch and pull the needle down through the fabric.

A Cast on stitch is formed.

Now let me show the steps I have followed to do the flower in the beginning.

Mark dots at equal distances around a circle.

Do a cast on stitch between any two dots.

 

Now make the second cast on stitch between the middle of the first stitch and a point between 2nd and 3rd dots.

Second cast on stitch is formed and now do the third stitch between the 2nd and 3rd dots and continue the cirlce.

The last stitch should overlap the first stitch. Add french knots in the centre.

A simple cast on stitch flower is formed.
