Known for its neat edges and easy-to-follow steps, this design is ideal for beginners who want to create stunning floral patterns without getting overwhelmed. In this blog post, we’ll guide you through the process of making a charming flower using the blanket stitch — a versatile and beginner-friendly technique that adds both texture and elegance to your embroidery projects. Let's get stitching!

Here’s a quick glimpse of the blanket stitch flower embroidery design:

🌸 A simple six-petal flower stitched using neat blanket stitches with whipping it with contrast color.
🌿Stems and leaves to complement the bloom
✨ Perfect for decorating handkerchiefs, cushion covers, or tote bags

Clean, elegant, and easy to master — ideal for beginners!

Pattern for the design
-----------------------

I have used six strands of thread throughout the design.  Embroidered the flowers using blanket stitch and whipped each blanket stitch in contrast colour.  For the stems I have used split back stitch.  For the leaves I have done the simple fishbone stitch but with two colors.  In the centre of the flowers added three french knots.

You can watch the video tutorial to see how it is embroidered.

Shadow work embroidery, A perfect design to practice shadow work

Delicate, graceful, and rich in tradition, shadow work embroidery is a timeless technique that creates a beautiful, subtle effect—almost like a whisper stitched into fabric. Known for its translucent look and soft elegance, it’s perfect for adding charm to baby clothes, handkerchiefs, and home linens. If you’re new to this technique or looking for the ideal pattern to refine your skills, you’ve come to the right place. In this post, we’ll introduce a perfect design to practice shadow work—simple enough for beginners, yet satisfying for experienced embroiderers who love classic handwork.

In this design I have used double back stitch and stem stitch with 3 strands of thread throughout.  I have taken this design from the net.
