sewing machine cover

I am having a singer talent 3321 sewing machine which I received as a gift from my DH for my birthday.  I found a tutorial for sewing a cover here.  Thanks to Vanessa.  Here I have used the fabrics from my worn out night dresses.  I was not perfect in my attempt but I am happy that I have tried one and it fits my machine.  Also I have used the embroidered piece which makes me more happy.  It is a chikankari  embroidery paisley and I have a post about it here.

For the edge of the cover instead of using the bias binding I have used a satin ribbon and it works out perfectly.

I have started to sew different blocks used in quilts with the old fabrics as a process of recycling.  I will come up with that in the coming posts.

Till then, Happy embroidering and sewing.

Chikankari paisley

This is another chikan work motif, a paisley design which was with me for a long time to get embroidered.  I have got this design through Indus ladies. I have used double back stitch(Bhakya stitch).  I have embroidered in ordinary cotton fabric.  So the shadow work has not been highlighted.  Therefore,  I have taken the photograh with a light under the fabric.  And now, I hope the shadow work is visible.  Now have a look at it.

I have used this piece of fabric to stitch a new cover for my sewing machine.  With that cover I will meet u in my next post.

Crocheted bag

I have crocheted this bag sometime bag.  The pattern is from here.  It is a very easy pattern.  In the pattern it was a messenger bag.  But I have done it like a shoulder bag and I gave it to my mom.  Here comes the bag;

I have managed to stitch a zipper and lining using my sewing machine.

This is the closeup of the bag.

One last snap.  But I don't know why the picture got rotated while uploading.  Anybody know the reason?

I have crocheted two more bags and I will show them in the coming posts.  So, do watch my space.

Chikankari Motifs

I was wondering when I saw some of the chikan embroidered materials having a small bead like stitch.  That was more attractive in any chikan embroidered piece.  But don't know how to do that stitch.

After googling for days I have found a post in this and that my random thoughts.  I have stunned to see a saree with this phanda stitch.  Through her I have got the link to learn the phanda stitch and it is here.  Thanks to Deepa for giving the information regarding the phanda stitch.

After learning that stitch I have tried some chikan embroidery motifs using the phanda stitch.  The result was beautiful.  I am planning to do a chikan kurti so that I can apply these stitch that and decided to use the third motif all over the kurti.

This is a small motif which can be used all over the body in a saree.

In the following motif I have used Bhakya stitch(Double back stitch) and phanda stitch.

Regarding the colours which color is apt for pink color fabric? Pink or blue.  Waiting for your suggestions.

Lunch towels

After learning to do embroidery I wanted to do something for my kids.  But for boys what can I do.  I made two pillow covers with their names in it.  Some time back I have got blue coloured aida fabric and from that time onwards I was urging to do a lunch towel for my boys.  So decided to go for a simple embroidery on both the sides.  The first one I have come up with the Holbein stitch and got the idea from Anchor needle and thread magazine.  Here it comes:

Here is the close up.

The two lines are double running stitch forward in blue and reverse in red.  It is a 10 count aida fabric.  So, Four strands of anchor cotton embroidery thread have been used.
In my next post I will be showing one more lunch towel with kasuti borders on both the sides.  So do watch my space.

Saree blouse

Today I have come up with the blouse for the saree which I have posted here.  The design is very simple.  Two lines with whipped running stitch.  In between the lines chain stitch is done in a zig zag manner and for the sleeves herringbone stitch is used.  Then the star shape is done using the fly stitch.  That's all.

A close up

Now the blouse along with sleeves.

yey..................Saree completed

Back in April I have started to embroider this saree and uff............ it is completed now.  I have blogged about the designs and the stitches before.  you can see it here and here. But today I am going to show u the completed saree.  I find difficulty in taking the photographs.  I don't know how to capture the complete pallu.  Since it is a chiffon material some wrinkles are here and there.  I have tried my best to capture the saree.  do have a look.
I have used pearl cotton thread for the flowers and varieagated anchor cotton thread for the stems and the leaves.

Now I am planning to do some simple embroidery in the blouse.  So do come back and watch my space.

Kamal Kadai Flower

Long back I started to embroider a saree  and finished the three borders.  Now I am working on the pallu and the body part.  I used Kamal Kadai work for the flowers.  This is the design I have worked on the pallu part.  Center of the flower has to be embellished with sequins or beads.  I have a post regarding the border design here.

Since it is a plain chiffon saree the body part was very plain. So I decided to add sequins at regular intervals.  Then also it was not up to the mark.  Then I have made fly stitches around the sequin and it has taken the shape of a star and I am doing that star shape flower with sequin all over the body and that flower is here:

I am happy about the star shape and what about u?  I am planning to complete the saree within a week and I will be back with the completed saree in my coming post.  Till then, Happy embroidering.

A line frock

After buying a sewing machine I wanted to sew wearables.  After sewing the circle skirt I got interest in sewing frocks also.  I have chosen A line frock and got the pattern from here.  Very easy to cut and sew. Instead of the fabric collar I have used the crocheted collar and I have left the pocket part.   And I succeeded in doing it.  I have sewed the collar which I have crocheted.  You can see the details regarding the collar here.

A close up.

This frock fits my niece and I am so happy about it.  Next I am going to try my hands on sewing a blouse.  I am trying to prepare the pattern.  Let me see how it works out.  In my next post I will come with a patchwork table cloth.  So please do visit my space.

Crochet collar

Some time back I have purchased Anchor crochet cotton thread of size 20 and 40.  But I didn't have a hook to use with that size of thread.  Last week I have purchase crochet steel hook of size 1.50mm and 1.75mm from pony craft stores.  First have a look at the threads and hooks.

I have planned a small project with that thread and yarn.  After searching for patterns I have come up with a crochet collar.  The pattern is from here.  I find it a bit difficult with the steel hook to crochet.   Now have a look at the collar.

I am planning to attach this collar in a frock which I am going to make with the dotted fabric in the background.  I will come up with the frock in my next post. So do watch my space.

Happy Crocheting.

Blouse Back neck Embroidery

It's been months I have done embroidery in the back neck of a blouse.  I have choosen this particular blouse because there is no confusion in selecting the colors. The saree has only embroidery in black color thread.  I have been looking and looking after so many designs, books that I have but not able to come up with a final design.  Then I have seen the stitch called Eskimo laced edging in sarah's embroidery tutorials site and thought why not we apply this stitch to the neck and succeeded in doing that. You can learn the stitch here.

You know one thing it took only an hour (less than that) to do this.  It is simple running stitch and then going through the stitches. That's all.  At last to give the stitch a rich look I have glued the stones on the edge of each stitch.  So have a look.  How is it?

waiting for your feedbacks.

A very simple one in the cutting part but a bit tricky in sewing the elastic and the seams.  First I didn't succeed but in the second attempt I succeeded.  I have learned to sew this here.  You can find more interesting tutorials for kids in that site.   Now comes the skirt.

I have some more tutorials in my to do list.  I will come up with one by one along with embroidery.

Kutch Work Border

Today I have come up with a kutch work border.  I have used herringbone stitch for the flower and fishbone stitch for leaves.  Stems are stitched using Back stitch.  The other parts are kutch work.  I am going to use this border for a pillow case.  I have completed stitching one pillow case.  After completing the other one I will show it in another post.

Closesup of the design.

The design has been taken from Kutch work designs book of Mridulas embroidery school.  In that book u can find all the possible designs for kutch work from simple to complex designs.  Also, I have bought a new embroidery machine and nowadays trying to do simple embroidery using machine. In the coming days I will blog about it.

Ferris Wheel doily

I like doilies that to in wheel  shapes and I came across this Ferris wheel doily in coatsandclark site.  It was very easy to make and can be finished within an hour in full concentration.  The exact link is here.  Have a look at it.  It looks good  as a center piece in a table especially in a black background..

With a flower vase in center of it.

This will also look good for a cushion.  I have kep it in a red background but black and white combination will goes well.

I am having so many doily patterns collected from the net in my to do list.  Whenever I am bored with embroidery I will take up one doily pattern to do.  Till then, Happy Crocheting.
