Stash to snuggle - A crochet blanket journey - The final Reveal

Welcome back to my crochet blanket journey!

I’m so happy to welcome you all to this special post, where I finally get to share the completion of my colourful stash-busting crochet blanket! What started as a simple plan to use the yarns I already had in my stash has turned into a wonderful journey filled with colourful stripes, new shades, and many hours of happy crocheting. Week after week, I watched the blanket grow, sharing my progress and the little changes along the way. And now, the moment I’ve been waiting for has arrived—the blanket is finally complete! Join me as I take you through the finished blanket and look back at this colourful crochet journey. I hope you enjoy seeing the final result as much as I enjoyed making it!

It took me 13 whole weeks to complete this colourful crochet blanket! Throughout this journey, I tried to crochet at least one stripe every day. On days when I had a little extra time, I managed to add two stripes, which felt like a bonus! Of course, there were also days when I couldn’t find the time or manage to crochet even a single stripe. But I kept coming back to my blanket whenever I could, adding a little more colour and watching it slowly grow. Looking back, I’m happy that I stayed with this project and finally brought it to completion. It’s a lovely reminder that even small, consistent efforts can lead to something beautiful!

For this blanket, I have used 20 different colours, keeping my main colour, blue, in between the other colours to create a lovely striped effect. The finished blanket has a total of 76 stripes, with each stripe consisting of two rows of the same colour. That makes 152 rows of crochet, excluding the foundation row. If I include the foundation row, which I worked in double crochet, the blanket has a grand total of 153 rows! It’s amazing to see how these 20 colours have come together to create such a colourful blanket, one stripe at a time.

Each row took me approximately 40–45 minutes to crochet, so completing this blanket required nearly 115 hours of crocheting time in total! That’s a lot of hours spent with my crochet hook and yarn, working one row at a time. Spread over 13 weeks, it was a little here and a little there, fitting in my crochet whenever I could. Sometimes I managed to complete a stripe a day, while on other days, I couldn’t crochet at all. But every row brought me a little closer to my goal, and seeing the finished blanket now makes all those hours worthwhile. It’s satisfying to know that so much time, patience, and love have gone into creating this colourful blanket!

The finished blanket measures approximately 63.5 × 74 inches (about 5.3 × 6.2 feet) and weighs nearly 1 kg. I’m happy with how it has turned out! After 13 weeks of crocheting, nearly 115 hours of work, and 20 different colours, I now have a beautiful, colourful blanket made with yarn from my stash, along with a few new shades. It’s lovely to see how all those individual stripes have come together to create a cosy blanket that I can use and enjoy. What began as a stash-busting project has become a satisfying handmade creation!

I used a 4 mm crochet hook and 4-ply acrylic yarn to make this blanket. The combination worked well for my colourful stash-busting project, helping me create the neat ripple stripes throughout the blanket. Acrylic yarn was a practical choice for using up the yarns in my collection, and the different colours came together beautifully to create the finished piece.

When I first started this blanket, I thought I would sell it once it was finished. However, things turned out even better than I had imagined! My 19-year-old son fell in love with the blanket and wanted it for himself, so he is now its proud owner. Knowing that something I made with so much time, effort, and love will be used and enjoyed by my own son makes this project even more special to me. What began as a simple stash-busting project has turned into something far more meaningful. I feel truly blessed, grateful, and deeply satisfied to know that my handmade creation has found a home with someone so dear to me. After all, there is a special kind of happiness in making something with your own hands and seeing it cherished by your loved ones.

And that brings me to the end of my colourful crochet blanket journey! What began as an attempt to use up the yarns in my stash turned into a rewarding 13-week project, with 20 colours, 76 stripes, and nearly 115 hours of crocheting. I’m so happy to have transformed those balls of yarn into a beautiful blanket measuring 63.5 × 74 inches. This project has reminded me that we don’t always need to buy new materials to create something special; sometimes, we just need to look at what we already have and let our creativity do the rest. I hope my blanket journey has inspired you to pick up your crochet hook and start a project of your own. Thank you for joining me on this colourful adventure. Until next time, happy crocheting and happy creating!
