Learn Byzantine Stitch - Needlepoint Stitch #7

Byzantine stitch is a classic and elegant needlepoint stitch known for its textured, diagonal pattern. It is made using slanted stitches worked in alternating directions, forming a series of interlocking blocks that create a rich, woven effect on the canvas.

This stitch is especially popular for its strong structure and durability, making it ideal for items that receive regular use, such as cushions, upholstery, and bags. The raised texture adds depth to the design, while the repeating pattern gives a neat and organized appearance.

Byzantine stitch works beautifully with wool, cotton, or silk threads and looks stunning in both single colors and shaded combinations. It is often used as a filling stitch or for backgrounds, where its bold texture can enhance the overall design.

Although it may look intricate, Byzantine stitch is quite beginner-friendly once you understand the stitch sequence. With a little practice, it can become a versatile and reliable stitch for creating stylish and long-lasting needlepoint projects.

Byzantine stitch is a timeless needlepoint stitch that combines strength, texture, and elegance in a beautiful way. Its structured pattern makes it perfect for both functional and decorative projects, while its versatility allows you to experiment with colors and designs. With a bit of practice, this stitch can become a go-to choice for adding depth and durability to your needlepoint work. Happy stitching!

Learn Heart Stitch - Needlepoint Stitch #6

 Hi all

Today I am going to share with you the tutorial for heart stitch in needlepoint.

Heart stitch is a decorative needlepoint stitch that creates small heart-shaped patterns on canvas. It is formed using a combination of straight stitches arranged in a way that resembles a heart, making it both charming and eye-catching. This stitch is often used as a filling stitch or as a small motif in needlepoint designs.

One of the appealing features of heart stitch is its textured and slightly raised appearance, which adds depth and interest to embroidery projects. It works beautifully with different thread types such as wool, cotton, or silk, and can be stitched in one color or multiple shades to highlight the heart shape.

Heart stitch is commonly used in decorative items like cushions, samplers, wall hangings, and small accessories. Because of its simple structure and repeating pattern, it is suitable for beginners who want to explore creative needlepoint stitches while adding a playful and elegant touch to their designs.

For this sample I have used 10ct aida fabric & 6 strands of thread.  That's why the fabric is seen in between the stitches.  To give full coverage use 12 strands of thread.  If doing on single thread canvas 6 strands of threads or tapestry thread gives the full coverage.

Hand embroidered Kasuti work kurti Neck design

 Hi all

Hope all are doing well and good.  Today I am happy to share with you a kasuti embroidered kurti in green colour.  I am doing this design for the second time. You can view the first one here.  This time also I have done in same color fabric with the same color threads.  But this time I have traced the complete design using carbon paper.  And the advantage is I have completed the embroidery without any confusion and 4 to 5 hours of time is also reduced than working with net.  Because while working with net we have to refer the design pattern and we have to remember it.  But this time that problem is not there and I have completed the whole neck design in 10 hours.  Have a look at the work.

I have included a 3 part video tutorial on working this design from the start to end.  You can watch it if you want to know about the working of the design.

Part 1 - Working the necklines.

Part 2 - Working the motifs inside the necklines

Part 3 - Working the motifs along the edges

I have purchased this design book  from Mridulas school of embroidery & fashion design.  You can find a good range of traditional embroidery books in there website.

Hope you all like this design.  If you want to purchase this embroidered fabric it is available in my instagram page here.

See you soon with another design tutorial. Till then happy embroidering and have a nice day.

Four sided stitch tutorial | How to do four sided stitch? Picture tutorial

 Hi all

Hope all are doing well and good. Today I am going to share the tutorial for doing four sided stitch.

This is a pulled thread stitch.  It consists of horizontal and vertical stitches. It forms a square on the front side of the fabric and crosses in the reverse side.  This stitch formed a nice border. It can be done as a row or we can form squares or rectangles according to the number of stitches done. I am working over three threads on Aida fabric.

Bring the needle up at one point and bring down straight above over three threads. Pull through the thread. A straight stitch is formed.

Bring the needle diagonally up crossing three threads. And bring down at the starting point.  Pull through the thread. Second straight stitch is done and we have formed two sides.

Again bring the needle diagonally up and bring it down at the end of the first side.  Pull through the thread and third side is formed.

Again bring the thread diagonally up and bring it down at the starting of the third side. Pull through the thread and fourth side is formed.

Now we have done with a four sided stitch.

For the second stitch, again bring the needle diagonally up and bring it down horizontally.  Continue like the first stitch.

After doing with one row or enough number of four sided stitches, turn the fabric 90 degree clockwise. The picture is shown below.

Again bring the needle diagonally up and make a horizontal straight stitch and continue as shown in the picture’s below.

After doing the second side, again rotate the fabric 90 Degree clockwise and continue.

Now we have a square with four sided stitch.

This is the back side of the fabric.  If done correctly we will be having squares in the back side.

Hope you find this tutorial useful.  I will be posting the video tutorial soon.  Till then have a happy time with your needle and thread.
