Stash to snuggle - A crochet blanket journey - Week 5&6 - Adding black, shades of grey, yellow, beige

Welcome back, dear readers! After a short break from posting my weekly progress, I'm back with an update on my colourful crochet blanket. I wasn't able to share last week's progress, so I've decided to combine the progress from the last two weeks into one post. The blanket has continued to grow steadily, and I've added some beautiful new colours to the ripple design.

Nine More Stripes Completed

Over the last two weeks, I managed to complete nine more stripes. With each stripe consisting of two rows, the blanket has continued to grow quite noticeably.

I'm enjoying the process of working on this large project a little at a time. Even though it is going to take quite some time to complete, seeing the blanket grow week after week makes the effort worthwhile.

Adding Black, Grey, Yellow and Beige

This time, I introduced several new colours into the blanket—black, two shades of grey, yellow, and beige.

The black adds a bold contrast to the bright blue that runs throughout the blanket. The two shades of grey bring some depth and balance to the brighter colours, while the yellow adds a cheerful pop of colour. I also added beige, which provides a soft, neutral shade among the more vibrant stripes.

I particularly like how the bright blue continues to appear between the different colours. Since I have plenty of this shade in my stash, using it repeatedly helps connect all the different colour combinations and gives the blanket a more unified appearance.

Watching the Blanket Grow

It's amazing to look back at the earlier photographs and compare them with the blanket now. What started as a collection of 4-ply acrylic yarn from my stash is gradually turning into a colourful and textured ripple blanket.

With nine more stripes completed, I'm one step closer to finishing this long-term project. There are still plenty of rows ahead, and I'm looking forward to seeing how all these colours come together as the blanket gets bigger.

Large crochet projects require patience, but I'm enjoying every part of the journey—one stripe, two rows, and one ripple at a time. 💙🖤💛

The blanket is continuing to grow steadily, and I'm enjoying experimenting with different colours from my yarn stash. This week, I introduced cream and two shades of green, adding a fresh and natural touch to the colourful ripple design.

Week 4 Update

Six More Stripes Completed

This week, I completed another six stripes, with each stripe consisting of two rows. That makes a total of 12 new rows added to the blanket this week.

I'm pleased that I have been able to maintain a steady rhythm with this project. Working on the blanket row by row makes this large project feel much more manageable, and it is incredibly satisfying to see the ripple pattern getting longer with every week.

Adding Cream and Shades of Green

For this week's colour palette, I introduced cream and two shades of green. The cream adds a soft, neutral element to the bright colours already present in the blanket, while the two greens bring a fresh and natural feel to the design.

I particularly enjoy how the new colours contrast with the recurring bright blue. The blue continues to appear between the different colour combinations, helping to create continuity throughout the blanket while allowing each new shade to stand out.

As the number of colours increases, the blanket is becoming more vibrant and interesting. I love the little surprise that comes with adding each new stripe and seeing how it works with the colours already crocheted.

Another 12 Rows Completed

With 12 more rows completed this week, the blanket is steadily growing into a colourful ripple creation. What started as a collection of 4-ply acrylic yarn from my stash is slowly turning into a beautiful handmade blanket.

I'm learning that consistency is the key to completing a large crochet project. A few rows each day may seem like a small achievement, but when those rows are added together week after week, the progress becomes quite remarkable.

I'm looking forward to continuing this journey and seeing which colours from my stash will make their way into the next section of the blanket.

Another six stripes, 12 rows, and three new colours added—one week closer to completing my ripple blanket!

Stash to Snuggle – A Crochet Blanket Journey - Week 1

Every crochet project begins with a single stitch, and today I'm starting one that has been on my mind for a long time.

Like many crocheters, I've collected quite a few balls of 4-ply acrylic yarn over the years. Instead of letting them sit in my stash, I've decided it's time to transform them into something beautiful, practical, and filled with memories—a large handmade crochet blanket.

This won't be a quick weekend project. A blanket of this size takes patience, consistency, and many hours of stitching. But that's one of the things I love most about crochet. Each row tells a story, and every finished section is a reminder that even the biggest projects are completed one stitch at a time.

These are all 4-ply acrylic yarns that I've gathered over time in a beautiful mix of vibrant, pastel, and neutral shades. Instead of leaving them tucked away, I've decided to give them a new purpose by turning them into one large crochet blanket. Each color will add its own personality to the design, making the finished blanket a unique reflection of creativity, patience, and the joy of making something beautiful from what I already have.

In this stash I have 4 hanks of Bright blue colour yarn and 7 to 8 black colour yarn.  But I am using black for 1 or 2 stripes.  And using Bright blue as the major colour.  I have no idea how to arrange these colour.  Thanks to chatgpt.  It crocheted me a sample blanket with these colours.  I will be making some changes in the stripe colours.  

For this blanket, I'm using a 4 mm crochet hook, which gives the stitches a lovely, even texture with my 4-ply acrylic yarn.

One new technique I'm trying in this project is the chainless foundation row. This is my first time using this method, and I'm already appreciating the clean, flexible edge it creates compared to a traditional foundation chain. Since it deserves a detailed explanation of its own, I'll be sharing a separate blog post with a step-by-step tutorial on how to work the chainless foundation row.

The blanket is being crocheted using the beautiful Neat Ripple Pattern by Attic24, a timeless ripple design that works wonderfully with multiple colours and is perfect for making the most of a yarn stash.

As with any new technique, the first row took a little longer than expected. It took me approximately 30–35 minutes to complete the foundation row. Although it required patience, I know the pace will improve as I become more familiar with the pattern and settle into a comfortable rhythm.

Every large crochet project begins with a single stitch, and I'm excited to see this blanket grow with each passing week. Although I've only completed the first 12 rows, I'm already enjoying the process and looking forward to watching the colours come together into a beautiful finished piece.

Crochet Blanket

Hi all

Hope all are safe.  Today I am here to share my crochet blanket which I have completed using the yarn scraps which have been collected over the past few years and still more scrap yarns are left.  

I have done two rounds of granny squares using the scraps and then a round of white.  After making two same color granny squares I have joined them together and bordered the two squares using black.  

Made twenty rows and then bordered them with pink or purple.  

Likewise added six columns with twenty rows each and finally added two rows of border and finally completed. 

These are the two blankets which I am having in my cupboard now.  The blanket which I have started last year is waiting to get joined and I hope I will be able to completed it before 2020 ends. 

One of the goal for this year to completed one crochet blanket is achieved. And I am happy about it.  Now I will be able to concentrate on the other projects.  

I will come up with another embroidery design in my next post.  Till then, Happy crocheting.

Hi all

This is going to be a small post.  I am happy to give an update on my ripple blanket and the cross stitch cushion.  So far I am doing as per the schedule doing one row per day and 2 block in the cushion.  Here they are at the end of February.

In my next post I will be showing  some crochet finishes which I have completed earlier.  Till then have a happy time with needle n thread.  

New projects

Hi all

On the first day of 2019 I have started a couple of projects so that I can work on it in a daily basis.  One is a Ripple blanket and the other is a cross stitch cushion cover with a simple pattern that doesn't need a chart.  Have a look at them.

I am following the Neat Ripple pattern of Lucy from Attic24. It is a know pattern in the crochet world. I am Using 4 ply acrylic yarn and a 4mm hook.  I am doing one row per day.  It took me 15 to 20 mins  to complete one row.  So far I have completed one row each day till yesterday.  

The next is a cushion cover with a simple pattern in cross stitch.  I am doing 2 blocks per day.  Somedays i will be stitching more than 2 .  Maximum 4.  Not more than that.  Using 2 strands of different anchor embroidery cotton.

I will be finishing this into a 16 inch cushion cover.  

This year I have decided to take concentrate on one project at a time apart from these two.  B'coz having more projects in the work basket is sometimes stressful.  I have planned to finish a project, then shoot photos , update in the blog and then move on to the next one.  I have some crochet projects which I have completed last year in which I haven't blogged till now.  Some of them need some finishing touch.  I will be doing them one by one before moving on to a new start.  Mainly I am focussing on my UFO's in my work basket and the stash I have collected in the last few years. This year I have also decided not to go for shopping craft items unless and until necessary.  

I will be updating the progress of these projects every month.  In my next post I will be showing the crochet projects which I have missed to show here.  That's all for now.

Crochet Hexagon baby blanket - Ta......da.....

Hope all r doing well.  From my side I am busy crocheting for a sale in my church in September.  I have completed some projects and one is a hexagon crochet blanket.  Whenever I see a hexagon in crochet it tempts me to start something on it.  This time I started with a plan of doing a blanket for a single bed.  But I ended up doing a baby blanket. I like to crochet hexagons.  But I didn't like the joining part.  So much to join and so many odd ends. So I finished it into a baby blanket.  On the whole it is a relaxing process.  This is my finished blanket.

I made 5 hexagon flowers with 7 hexagons.  Each hexagon is a of 5 rounds of solid granny hexagon .  Around that I added 12 hexagons to make another round.  Then made half hexagon flower to bring the blanket to rectangle shape.

For joining I place two hexagons with the right sides together and sew then thru the corresponding back loops. 

Yarn used : 4 ply acrylic yarn from pradhan.

Hook used : 4 mm

Pattern: Solid granny hexagon.  

I am happy that I have completed this blanket within a short period  concentrating only on this.  One more crochet bag is completed.  Waiting for a zipper to get attached.  It will take only an hour to do it.  But it is getting postponed.  I don't know why this happens with most of my projects.  Final touch takes a long time.  Now a days I am addicted to see the videos of creative grandma in you tube.  She teaches crochet stitches that creates a nice texture and have done some swatches watching her videos.  As my next crochet project I am planning to make another bag with one of those stitches.

Granny stripe Blanket - Ta ta da........

Today I am happy to share with you all my granny stripe blanket.  I have completed it in February.  I have started this blanket to use my local yarn from my stash.  Out of curiosity one afternoon in september 2016 I have started to do it.  It started to grow nicely row by row.  I have decided to do one row a day.  But that limit goes than 5 rows a day.  When I used all colors in my stash the first set contains 33 stripes (a stripe contains 2 rows).  I have done 93 stripes repeating the first 33 stripes again in the same order.  Now the blanket in all its glory.

I have used local brand acrylic yarn with 4 mm hook.  It took 15 mins to crochet 1 row.  The blanket fits a double bed.  This is the second blanket I have crocheted.  I am happy with the final outcome of the blanket. Also, I have added a a simple dc edging around the blanket.  It is simple and neat.  I am writing this post in a hurry.  So that's all for now.  I have joined the crochet quilt blocks.  Now I have to add some edging to it.  After that I will come up with that.

Now on my embroidery hoop is the smalls SAL for March.  Some backstitches have to be done.  Will be finishing it this weekend. I will come up with the march fairy and the epp pincushion in my next post.  Till then happy crocheting.

Kasuti embroidered borders, Needlepoint start, WIP updates

Hope all r  doing great with new plans, new dreams and new resolutions.  In my side, though I had a little problem with cough and cold last week, my crafty journey is going on smoothly.  Last year I decided to do some pillow covers before christmas since I had a red dotted fabric in my stash.  I thought of adding a little bit of hand embroidery in it and decided to do embroidery patches and attach to it.  I have done with kasuti embroidery borders in 10ct matty cloth with three strands of anchor embroidery threads.  But I keep on postponing the sewing part and by the time christmas and new year were over.   Till now I didn't feel like taking my sewing machine out of its cover.  So here I am showing only the embroidered borders or patches.  

This weekend I will be sewing this and another pillow cover with a touch of stenciling in it.  I will show it once I finish both.

As I have planned in the beginning of this year, I have started the needlepoint wall hanging kit which was with me for more than 3 years.  Seeing the chart I thought it will be a complicated one, since the chart contains only one fourth of the design.  But after starting it I got the hang of changing the direction of the working piece and continue with the chart which is new to me.  So far the stitching is going on well and I liked it a lot.  Here are the two pictures after the end of day1 and day2 of stitching.

I have some progress in my mega cross stitch project and granny stripe blanket which I have done during Nov and Dec.

One more page to finish the top blocks.  Will try to finish the next page within next month.  This project will again travel with me this year.

I have completed one third of the blanket.  only 21 color stripes remaining. Means I have to do 42 rows.  I am strictly doing 2 rows a day and hopefully I will be finishing this project within Feb 10th along with a simple border. When I show this blanket next time mostly it will be a Ta.. da.. post.  

In my next post I will come up with a simple yoke pattern which I have designed with the basic embroidery stitches and the first block of the rainbow SAL 2017.    Till then, Have a happy time with needles , yarns and threads.

A crochet ripple finish

Last December I have started this ripple blanket for my friend who is expecting her second baby on March.  I wanted to do with granny squares.  Since it has the lace effect I started rippling the blanket so that it doesn't have any holes. Everything went on well.  I had only 2 balls of yarn in brown and cream each.  But I needed more than I expected.  I ran out of yarn.  I ordered another set and with great confidence I have ordered the brown on seeing the online catalogue of Pradhan stores.  But to my disappointment It was another shade which I have seen after receiving it.  So I have decided to do rows of dc's on both sides till I reach the size of the blanket.  I have done one dc on top of the dc's in the ripple row but the ends got extended than the ripple's width.  I don't have the patience to unravel it and do it again and thought let it be like a frill at the end.  

So what to do with the border.  I had a small amount of yarn left over from the first brown and I have done slip stitch on each stitch on all the four sides. That's all.  Completed.  Phew.  

In this photo u can see how much it has been extended.  I am not satisfied with this blanket.  On my embroidery hoop is a kutch work kurti. Will be finishing it this week.  Will meet u with another finish.  Till then, Happy crocheting.

Sophie's Garden - Progress so far

Back in february I have joined sophies Universal CAL hosted by dedri of look at what I made.  It is a blanket cal and she has finished all the official rounds of the blanket.  So far 113 rounds have been completed.  I have also completed the 113 rounds and blocked my blanket.  It came around 47 x 47 inches.

  And last week the squares for making the blanket into rectangle has been posted.  But I am not going to do the squares.  Instead I am going to continue with the as-we-go-stripey-blanket pattern on both the sides to fit my double size bed.  I can't believe my eyes. This is the first time I am using these many colors in a single project.  Very happy with the outcome.

I like this part the butterfly band, the tulip and then the diamond band.  Creative pattern and using simple stitches different patterns have been created.
