Tapestry doily

Hi all,

As christmas is  nearing I want to show you one more finish from my side for this christmas.  Last year when I saw this tapestry crochet for christmas post from Nima I have decided to make one for me this year.   Thanks Nima for the inspiration.   I make doilies but without knowing how to display it, I use to keep it safe in my closet.  And if i display it in a table my kids will surely spill something over it.  With that fear I will not display doilies.  When I saw Nima displayed her doily in a canvas, I was happy that I have found a way to display.  So, finally I made the same doily which she has made. But I made a different edging from a picture pattern from pinterest, as I was not able to figure out the pattern from her doily.  And here is my doily,

This is the chart which I have worked the edging.  It is from pinterest.  I didn't have the link for it.  This is the first time I am working with the chart and it is easy.

Finally I have managed to buy the canvas and painted it with red color acrylic paint.  I have given two coatings.  I didn't get modpodge in my place.  So I mixed 1 quantity of fevicol with 3 quantity of water and fixed the doily with the canvas and let it dry.  And the result is here.

I am happy with the result.  Since the canvas does not have any holes for hanging it, I've simply displayed it in my table.  Is there any idea to hang it.  After christmas I thought of framing it, otherwise it will get dust and the beauty of the doily will go in course of time.

Also, I have managed to finish two cross stitched pieces into ornaments.

Sorry for the picture quality.  I have taken it in night light.  The first one I have stitched for the smalls SAL last year.  The second one I have finished last month.  For the first piece I have simply glued all the four sides of  the cross stitched pieced in a card board and again glued another cardboard for backing.  Made a twisted cord and glued it all around.  Similarly for the second one I have kept a thin batting foam in between the piece and cardboard and then glued it all the four sides.  The second one looks better than the first one.  Using twisted cord it a simple way of finishing such small cross stitched or embroidered pieces.  While displayed it looks super cute.

I am not able to embroider or crochet as I have planned to finish before christmas, since we have back to back appointments with the eye doctor for my mother.  She is advised to take lucentis injection.  Any body have idea about that injection.  I have learned from the net that it may have side effects.  And we are worried since she has sight only in one eye.  Any way we have to take risk hoping postively otherwise the problem will go even worse.  So this week crafting will be minimal from my side and I have planned to take the WIP's to the next year.  But before this year I will come up another final post with all my finishes and some plans I have for the next year.

Till then, happy crocheting and cross stitching.

Two Tone doily, New start

Thanks all for your lovely comments on my kutch work kurti.  I like that simple design of diamonds and now my hands are itching to make a kutch work bag with these diamonds.  It's in the planning stage. Should I make the design for the whole bag or should I make it in patches. Not able to decide. If it is done for a whole bag it will be a big project again.  Let me see how it works out.

Here I am presenting to you the two tone doily which is a very famous one in the world of crocheters, Easy to do and with two colors it's wonderful.  I have made it in a day and after blocking I like it very very much.

The pattern is from here.

I have first seen this doily in Ninu's blog.  I like her Lavender and yellow combo and I will make one more doily with that color combo coz this doily has been sold out in the church sale.  Hop over to her blog. You can see wonderful crochet creations with nice colors.

I live in a hot place and I don't need yarn blankets but whenever I see crochet blankets in the blogland I go crazy and I wanted to make one.  Last year I made Sophie's universal blanket and that too has been sold in the sale.  So I started to make a granny stripe blanket to show case in my bed during day. Also it is a stash buster project because I have sooo many local brand acrylic yarns in my stash which I have collected over 2-3  years. I have finished first set of red and orange colors and started off with green now.  I have decided to make one row in a day but sometimes I go mad and go on crocheting 4,5 row at a time.  It's  nicely coming up.

A small cross stitch project is in the finishing stage. Stitching part is over and I am going to finish it into an ornament.  I will show it once completed.

On the crafty side, I am busy and next week we will be going to my mothers place for a short vacation.  Will catch u all after that.  Till then, Take care, Have a happy time with needle n thread, yarns.

Pineapple Doily and WIP update

Recently I have completed this pineapple doily.  You can google this pattern in the name "Pink pineapple doily".

Needlepoint sampler blocks update
-------------------------------------------

Stitches from the bottom row.
Blue and pink  stripe - Parisian stitch
Light blue stripe - Double Parisian stitch
Centre pink stripe - Elongated smyrna stitch
I have filled the empty spaces with straight stitches in dark blue thread.

The square with yellow and green thread is Sprats Head stitch.  I like this stitch very much.  Centre Orange color column is Cashmere stitch. The Red square on the left is T-square stitch.  The Red square on the right is T-stitch which provides a nice lace effect.
Only two more blocks to complete this sampler.

I have also completed the third  page of the mega cross stitch project.  It took 29 hrs in total to complete that page.

Happy that I have made this much progress in this project.  So  many color changes but the parking method of threads makes it easier to do.  That's all for now.  Will be back with another finish.  Till then Happy crocheting and cross stitching.

Square Pineapple Doily

The doilies made by the fellow bloggers using thread, caught my attention and the small details shown after blocking fascinated me.  So I tried a thread doily for the first time.  I have choosen a small one with only 18 round and too it is in square shape. Have a look at it.

Ferris Wheel doily

I like doilies that to in wheel  shapes and I came across this Ferris wheel doily in coatsandclark site.  It was very easy to make and can be finished within an hour in full concentration.  The exact link is here.  Have a look at it.  It looks good  as a center piece in a table especially in a black background..

With a flower vase in center of it.

This will also look good for a cushion.  I have kep it in a red background but black and white combination will goes well.

I am having so many doily patterns collected from the net in my to do list.  Whenever I am bored with embroidery I will take up one doily pattern to do.  Till then, Happy Crocheting.
