Crochet purse, smalls SAL - May

Hello my readers,

Vacation is over in our place and my kids are back to school and I am slowly catching up my crafty activities.

I have completed a small crochet purse with the copenhagen square pattern.   The pattern can be found here. For the lining this time I made a zipper purse and then attached that to the crocheted one. I found it easier without much complication.

Also I have cross stitched a small design for Smalls SAL - May 2016.  A tulip flower.  But I am late to check in for that.

That's all from me today.  Temperatures are still high in my place and my mood is not settled to do embroidery.  Hope the climate will be ok within a week or two.  Till then I will be continuing with my crochet projects and I will be back with a crochet doily.  Happy crocheting and cross stitching.

A kasuti Sampler

Hello all,

Hope all r doing good.  Thanks for the comments in my previous post.  When I started doing cross stitch designs in black color background inspires me.  And once I have found a black color 10ct aida cloth in a shop and bought two meters.  But when I got 14ct aida in my hand I kept the 10ct unattended.

During the starting of this year I was cleaning my cupboard and found the old black aida.  I thought of using it for some purpose and when I measured it, it fits a small bed in my home.  So I started to do a kasuti sampler because I want to try all the designs of kasuti I am having in a book.  With an enthusiasm I started, but, after that I find it difficult to find the holes in that black color aida cloth.  So to solve that issue I wrapped  white color tape (the one used for dressing purpose in hospitals) around my index finger of the left hand and started stitching.  This time it is even more easier and the holes r visible easily.  I started with a simple border and so far I have completed 3 borders and 4 sets of motifs.  I have started doing it from the centre and the embroidery is growing towards one end.

So lets have a look at the sampler .  Click on the image to get a closer view.

This border forms a nice and wide border for kurtis or sarees.

The sampler so far

I am using 3 strands of  anchor variegated threads.  It is going to be a long term project.  Currently I am working on two kurti's (kasuti and kutch) made on custom order. I ran out of thread and ordered some anchor threads.  All these are somewhat big projects.  Takes time to complete it.  So in order to get instant satisfaction I am doing crochet coasters now and then.

Hope all of u like my sampler.   I am eagerly waiting for my parcel from pradhan embroidery stores.   In  my next post I will come up with a finished crochet coaster and some kits I own.  Till then, Happy embroidering.

April smalls SAL

Hello my dear readers,

Hope all of u r doing good.  This month being so hot in our place my stitching time has been reduced. Didn't feel like doing anything.  Fans are running in the max. speed and i don't like to stitch with fan at full speed.  The fabric, the threads will also dance along with the fan and it irritates a lot. Also, I didn't feel like writing a post.   I should not murmur about this hottest season coz, God has blessed us with the blessing we need for this season like AC, cooler, etc.  So

Don't count on your problems,
Instead
Count on your blessings.

Today I made up my mind to write this post and thought I will edit my photos sitting in the bedroom as AC is running there and then continue with the post after wards.  But to my luck wi-fi is being accessible from the bedroom(this happens once in a while) and you know I am happily writing this post.  He...He...

Last month I was not able to participate in the smalls SAL hosted by stitching lotus.  This month I have decided to do some simple and small stitching and selected a design from kinkavelcrosses.  I didn't book mark the exact page from that site. If u r interested in stitching this design u can find it under the cross stitch category. You will so many cross stitch and black work design there.

I will be finishing this up into a pin cushion which I am in need of during stitching.

I have finished this in an evening with the left over threads.  Used two strands of thread.    Hope I will be finishing it into a pin cushion this week.  Once finished I will show u the pin cushion.

Long back I have tried a piece of interlocking crochet and it is here for u to see.  It is "Bargello design" from the book interlocking crochet by Tannis Gallik. I have downloaded the free edition in kindle.  You can see couple of rows in the beginning is different. I made a mistake in the pattern and it forms a different design and after that I got a hang on it and got the pattern correct.  This is going to be made into a purse to be gifted to my niece when they will be back to school in June.  I like interlocking crochet coz there is no weaving of threads often.

On my stitchy side I have started a kasuti sampler and a kasuti kurti is also in progress.  For the kurti I am afraid I will ran out of threads.  If not I will finish it this week and will come up that in my next post.  Next month will be busy and hot month as kids are at home for summer vacation. So my crafting time will get reduced.  Any way those who r in India be safe and stay indoors as much as possible.  Have a happy weekend. Happy stitching etc.

Aari embroidery blouse and tatting

For 2015 christmas dress I have made simple embroidery in my blouse using Aari technique.  I have made it very simple with only aari chain stitch and then sticked some stones. Used gold color and red color silk embroidery thread.

In February I got tatting needles from Raja thread stores, Chennai and then I tried needle tatting.  This is what I come up with after some trials. A tatted bookmark.

Also, I have completed another page in my "Harmony"  Mega cross stitch project.  The photos before and after.
Before

After.  Ears of the puppy is seen now.  Happy to see the project growing inch by inch.

Now I am doing a kasuti embroidery project.  Some crochet projects are finished and waiting for blocking and  taking snaps.  Will be back with another finish.  In our place temperature is shooting up. Not able to bear the hot climate in this month itself.  Next month phew can't imagine.  Anyway do watch my space for my next post.

Kasuti Yoke and Border - Finished

Hi friends,

As I have promised in my last post I am here to show the kasuti embroidery yoke and border.  This time I have embroider this in small pieces of fabric so that it can be attached to the main piece.  I have got the kasuti embroidery net from Raja thread stores in chennai but the no of holes per inch is larger than the one which I had earlier.  That's why stitches are somewhat longer.  But it gives perfect look like before.

Fabric used : Black color silk cotton
Thread used: Anchor embroidery thread
No. of strands: 3
Design taken from: Mridulas school of embroidery - kasuti applications book

Border

I have just placed the embroidered pieces on top of the fabric just for an idea how it can be attached to the fabric.

Two years back I have embroidered the same design but with different border.  You can view that piece here.

If any of you is interested in buying this piece do mail me at isseelan@yahoo.com.

Crochet solid granny bag

First of all thanks for all your valuable comments for my cross stitch Jesus on cross.

Last year I have purchased some variegated yarn in an idea of crocheting a blanket.  But I am not pleased with the colors after crocheting the solid granny square and then I decided to change those squares into a bag.  I am happy with the finish.  Made lining with hand. Attached velcro inside and a button outside as an embellishment.

For the handle I crocheted few rows of sc's and then folded vertically and joined with slip stitch.  It gives a nice firm handle. Hope all of you like it.

I am done with my kasuti embroidered neck and border.  And also i am in the finishing stage of a crochet doily.  Will be back with my kasuti work soon.  Till then, do watch my space.  Happy crocheting.

Jesus on the cross

For christians Lent is a holy season remembering the sufferings of our saviour Jesus christ on the cross.  Last year I have started to work on this design and I thought this will be the right season to finish this.  Everyday I have progressed little by little on the month of february and it is completed now.  Happy that it is going to adorn my wall after framing.

The design is taken from alitadesigns.  The link for the chart is here.  So many cute and small designs can be found in that site.

I have crocheted a square.  The name of this square is big june and the pattern is taken from here.   Simple stitches creates a textured square.  I like it very much.

On my embroidery hoop is a kasuti project.  I've got the kasuti net from Raja thread stores chennai.   Will be back with another finish.  Till then, Happy cross stitching and crocheting.

I am linking this post to smalls SAL for February.
