Buttonhole stitch/Blanket stitch - Tutorial

Hope all are staying safe and doing good.  In the embroidery stitch tutorial list, today I am going to share the steps to do the blanket stitch.  

Blanket stitch is an easy and simple stitch which is often used to stitch the edges of blankets and other garments.  It is also known as buttonhole stitch.  Some say buttonhole and blanket stitches are different.  But I personally didn't find any difference.  Now let us see the steps to work the blanket stitch.

Assume that we are working on two parallel straight lines.

Embroidery design - Buttonhole / Blanket stitch

Hi all

Here is my next free embroidery design.  An easy stitch to embroider flowers.  Easy way to fill the flowers.  You can use this stitch to embroider leaves also. 

Pattern for the design

Here, the big flowers are divided into three parts.  The outer part has been worked with buttonhole stitch.  Then worked some straight stitches from the middle of each stitches towards the second part of the flower.  From the middle of each straight stitches, some more straight stitches have been worked towards the center of the flower concentrating the round in the center of the flower.  Then the flower center is worked with french knots.  

The small flower is worked with outer layer of button hole stitches and with straight stitches towards the center and then french knots in the center.  

Leaves are all worked with buttonhole stitch drawing a line the middle of the leaves.  Then the middle line is stitch with back stitch. If you feel the background fabric is shown after stitching the leaves, some straight stitches can be worked with the next darker shade of the thread to fill the gaps.  I have done some straight stitches in the two leaves on top left.

French knots - 288 ( 6 strands with 1 wrap)

Embroidery design 5 - Buttonhole stitch Neck design

Hello all,

I am very late in posting this months free design.  When I was ready with my design to post, a lot of unpleasant things happened in our city last week. For three days the shops were closed, buses were stopped and nothing was normal. Protest to ban Sterlite(A factory which manufactures copper) was going on and it ended up in a heart broken way.  If u want to know more about it just google or search in you tube. Internet was not there for more than 3 days.  But now everything is coming back to normal slowly.  But the victims and their families of the protest are suffering a lot.  That factory has to be banned bcoz sulphuric acid is getting mixed up with the air for more than 22 yrs. Arsenic has been mixed up with the land and ground water. Since it is poisonous all the people of tuticorin are struggling to ban it for the welfare of our future generations.  Now government has issued orders to close the factory, but we don't know how long  it will be closed. Money is playing a major role in this matter and only God has to save us.  Ok,  leave it.

Let me give the free design for this month. It is a buttonhole stitch design.  Easy to do and you can complete it fast. You can stick stones or make a french knots in the centre of the flowers.

Flowers - Buttonhole stitch(2 strands)
Stem - Back stitch(3 strands)
Leaves - Lazy Daisy stitch(3 strands)
Neckline - Chain stitch variation(6 strands)(you can also go for herringbone or chevron stitch)

Threads used:

Flowers - 20(maroon)
stem and leaves - 188(green shade)

I will update this post with the method I have done the chain stitch variation.  Last month I have promised to do kantha border for this months free design.  I was not able to complete it.  So I have uploaded this design as this has been in my drafts.  Next month I will come up with the kantha embroidery border design.  Before that some more finished pieces are waiting to be showcased here.  So do watch my space.  Till then, Bye.

Button hole stitch sample

It's been so many days i have posted here. My laptop is not working and i have to wait till my new laptop comes. I don't know when i will get my new laptop. So before that i thought of posting about a small sample i have embrobefore from my mobile.  This is just a sample before proceeding to a big project.

Yes, I am planning to make an embroideref yoke for myself. The pattern, fabric and threads all r ready. Tomorrow i will be starting that project. So before that have a look at my sample piece along with the pattern.

I have used button hole stitch for the flowers, back stitch for the stem, lazy daizy and straight stitch for the small leaves.

I have some more projects to show which i have done for the sale in the church.  Will come up with those one by one when i get a new laptop.

Blouse Back neck embroidery

I have some big projects in hand.  In between that thought of doing one which can be completed in a short period of time and I came up with this embroidery in the back of the blouse.  Here I have used a simple design with a flower and two leaves repeatedly.  Used buttonhole stitch for the flower and satin stitch for the leaves and stem stitch for stem  Also done neckline using simple chain stitch and attached sequins in between.    Waiting for your comments and suggestions.

 

 

Embroidered Wall Hanging

I have used lazy daisy stitch for flowers, french knots for inside the flowers, cross stitch for flower vase. 

Flower design for center



Flowers are outlined using stem stitch.  Fly stitch is used for filling red color flowers.  Buttonhole stitch is used for brown and pink color flowers.  Centre of each flower is embroidered using buttonhole stitch and interior part is satin stitch.  I have used this design as a center for my table cloth. 

Button hole neck design

This is the first design I have designed for my kurti.  Buttonhole and stem stitches are used.
I have used reverse chain stitch for the neck line.

Lazy daisy stitch, buttonhole stitch

Flowers and leaves are stitched using Lazy daisy stitch.
Big flower is stitched using Buttonhole/blanket stitch.  Inside this Buttonhole wheel is used.
Also Algerian Eye stitch is also used for the spokes.
This can be used as borders for table cloths.

Buttonhole stitch embroidery

This is the design which I have selected for doing embroidery in my churidhar tops.Flowers are done using button hole stitch and stems using stem stitch.  I have embroidered to form a diamond shape.  Neck part is not yet over.  I will post the completed dress after getting stitched.

The design for the sleeves is below.  Along with the design I have added some curly lines on both sides.  Have a look.

Fly stitch and Button hole stitch in churidhar tops

This is the neck design of the tops.  I have used palistrina knot for the neck line. And used fly stitch inside the two lines.  Added cut beads for the bottom neck line. You can find the tutorials for the fly stitch and palistrina knot in the website www.embroidery.rocksea.org

This design I have taken from the blog http://sadalas.blogspot.com which she has given under the title kashmiri designs.  I have changed the design a bit for me to be comfortable.
