A big new start - Saree project

 Hi all

Hope all are staying safe and doing good.  It's been a long time I have done embroidery on a saree.  Saree is our traditional dress and I used to wear saree for all special occasions and for church services on every Sunday.  When I started to do embroidery I have embroidered some sarees.  You can view my kamal Kadai saree and kutch work saree

Last year before lockdown when I went to shopping I have seen this material and I purchased five anfd a half metres for saree and a matching blouse to go with it.  Every time I used to embroider the border for the whole saree and it will take a long time to complete it.  So this time I have decided to embroidery some motifs with a corner design and a big design for the shoulder part.

First have a look at the fabrics.

The fabric is a mix of rawsilk and polyster cotton.  The color is mix of yellow and maroon.  I had a tough time selecting the threads and finally came up with maroon,  blue and green.

Regarding the design I have selected a simple design using buttonhole stitch and lazy daisy stitch. I have worked one motif in the pallu border.  I have  used 3 strands of thread throughout the design. Have a look at the motif that is going to be used throughout the saree.

For the centre of the flowers I have decided to use half beads.  I didn't have white half beads of big size.  So for the photo I place blue half beads for the buttonhole stitch flowers and small white half beads for the lazy daisy flower.  If I find white big half beads I will replace the blue beads with it.  What is your opinion?
I have one more saree in my WIP basket with kasuti embroidery.  1 metre of border is pending.  I am slowly doing that saree now and then and it is nearing the finish.  Will show it soon.

Tomorrow I will come up with a book review.  So stay tuned.  Till then, have a happy time.

Shadow work saree pallu

In the beginning of this year I have started to do shadow work in a saree. I have completed 3/4 of the embroidery and today I am showcasing the pallu part of it.  Earlier I have posted the motif here.  In that I have embellished it with more stones.  But finally I have decided to reduce the number of stones and this is what I have come up with.

5 big motifs are there.  The design is from Anchor needle n thread magazine.  Sorry for the poor quality of the photos. My photgraphic skills....................

I have to complete the flowers along the borders.  Thought of completing within next week.  But I ran out of  my pink thread.  So it will get delayed in completing this project.  And next week I will start of a project in kutch work.  Will come up with some crochet finishes before the final ta..da.. of the saree.  Till then, Happy embroidering.

I am  linking this post to stitchery link party.

New start in the new year

Hello Readers,

Happy New year.  This year I have planned a couple of projects so that I can have a regular stitching and complete it.  Will list them in my next post.  One of them is a shadow work project in a saree.  The design I have taken is from Anchor Needle n thread magazine.

The color of the saree is pale yellow and it is looking like white in the photo.  I was not able to capture the exact color.  I have completed one motif and today it is there for you to see.  The stones will be glued only after the complete embroidery is done.  For the time being I have placed the stones in the places where I am going to stick it.  Used two strands of anchor thread for the lines and 3 strands for shadow work(double back stitch).

A close up.

I have some FO's to show u.  So keep watching my space.  Till then, Happy embroidering.

Kamal Kadai work saree

Hello, my lovely readers.  Hope all of you might have a great week end.  In this post I am showing you a saree project which I have started a week back.

After learning Kamal Kadai work I have done a project on cotton kurti and it came up well.  From then I was wishing to do a kamal kadai project on a saree and the day came.  I have bought a plain chiffon saree and selected a portion of the design from the book Kamal work flower design(book No 19) of Mahila art centre.  I will give a review of the book some time later.

Then the process of selecting the colors.  Uff........  with great difficulty I decided on doing the kamal kadai flowers with pearl cotton thread(Those threads were lying in my thread box idle for more than 6 months after purchasing) and it is easy to do that with pearl cotton thread.  Then for the stems and leaves part I have selected a variegated anchor cotton thread (no: 1335)  and I hope it looks good.  Waiting for your feedbacks.  Center of the flowers has to be embellished with some stones or sequins.

Now the close up of the flowers.  I have managed to do cretan stitch for leaves and for the stem I have done whipped running stitch because I have bored on doing stem stitch and chain stitch.  I like the wavy pattern of the stem.  What about u?

I have completed the border in the pallu.  In order to complete the saree without getting bored I have decided to do each day one pink and blue flowers and the stem and the leaves associated to it .  Hope I will be finishing this project within a month.  Let me see .  Till then, Happy Embroidering.
