Kamal Kadai Stitch Flower - Tutorial 2/How to do Kamal Kadai Stitch

 Hi all

Hope all are staying safe.  Yesterday I have posted a tutorial of doing one way of kamal kadai stitchOld projects on kamal kadai done years back.  You can see it here.

Today I am sharing with you the tutorial for doing the basic shape of a kamal kadai flower.

For this flower only 1 color is used.  I have used 3 strands of thread.  We can also use pearl cotton thread for doing this stitch.

Let's move on to the tutorial.
We have to make straight stitches first from each outside edge of the petals.  This is shown by drawing lines just for reference.  If we draw lines towards the centre the stitches will be aligned properly.

Start stitching from any one side.

Stitch all the straight lines.  You can stitch the lines for all the petals first.  For tutorial purpose I am showing one petal first.

Bring the needle up at a point next to the straight stitch as shown above.

Now the weaving process starts.  Bring the needle over the first stitch, then under the next stitch, then over, under etc till last.

Pull the thread through the stitches and the first row of weaving will look like the above. Don't anchor the working thread.

For the next row bring the needle over the first thread(because the previous pass was under the thread in previous row), then under, over, under and so on.

After finishing the second row.

Continue in this manner and now you can see the shorter two straight stitches on both sides are covered.  Now you have to continue with remaining four spokes.

After covering the next two stitches, the two long stitches will remain.  Weave in those two stitches now so that the straight stitches are covered with weaving.  Anchor the thread under the weaving stitches.  One petal is completed.  Like this complete all the petals.  Stitch the centre of the flower with satin stitch or french knots.

Kamal Kadai flower is ready.

Hope all of you find this tutorial useful.  Do share your feedbacks in the comments section.
