Double Cast On Stitch - Embroidery Stitch Tutorial/ How to do Double Cast on Stitch

 Hi all

Hope all doing well and staying safe.  In embroidery stitch tutorial series today I am going to show the steps to do the double cast on stitch.  To do this stitch the knowledge of cast on stitch will be an added advantage.  The tutorial for doing cast on stitch is here.

I have worked a simple flower using double cast on stitch.

Now let us see the step by step tutorial of doing Double Cast On stitch.  For doing this stitch it is better to use tapestry needle  as we have to hold the tip of the needle while making each stitch.  Use 6 strands of thread or non strandable thread like pearl cotton threads.  If you are using pearl cotton thread put the initial knot with both the raw ends so that it forms two strands.

  1. Bring the thread up through the fabric.
  2.  Insert the needle a little below the first point as we do for bullion knot and cast on stitch, and bring it up at the first point .

3.  Now divide the 6 strands equally into two (3 strands each).

4.  Take the left partition of the thread and twist it around the index finger of the left hand.

5.  With the thread twisted around the fingers lift the needle with the same finger.

6.  Now pull the thread around the needle and tighten the thread, but don't make it too tight.

7.  On the left side a small knot is formed.  Now do the same steps with the right partition thread.  Twist the thread in the right side as shown above in the index finger.

8.  Lift the needle up and insert the loop formed around the needle and tighten the thread.

9.  Knots are formed on both the sides of the thread.

10.  Repeat the steps for left and right sides alternatively till the desired length is reached.

11.  Hold the stitches between the index and the thumb finger and pull the needle out.

12.   Carefully pull the thread out till the end.  There is a chance of tangling the thread, so slowly pull the thread out.

13.  The stitch will look like this with the working thread coming from below.

14.  Anchor the thread by inserting the needle at the base of the stitch.

15.  A Double Cast On stitch is formed.

Check for the pearl cotton thread -no.8 from the following link

The steps may seem to be complicate.  But once you practice the twisting of the thread and wrapping around needle it will be very easy.

Hope this tutorial is helpful.. I will be back with a design to practice this stitch soon.
